Increasingly our expertise is in demand in Bristol’s burgeoning technology sector. Bristol has been placed among Europe’s top 10 tech ‘super clusters’ in a recent survey. Employment in Bristol’s tech sector has grown by 25% since 2008.
We believe Bristol’s technology profile will grow in 2019, following trends of previous years. In 2017, the City lead the way in open data access, energy innovation, and community engagement. In 2018, Bristol beat off stiff international competition to win the “Smart City” at GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards: add our recent selection as the world’s first test-bed for open 5G in a public environment and it is easy to see why Bristol is the “city of choice” for technology businesses outside of London.
Corrigan Associates are proud to play our part in raising the City’s technology profile. We provide advice and guidance via “FD in residence” and business review panels through business incubators. We challenge and guide aspiring entrepreneurs, helping them avoid potential pitfalls and identify growth opportunities. We were particularly proud to support Ziylo, who featured in the news recently following their acquisition by Novo Nordisk, in a deal which could be worth up to $600 million. We look forward to supporting similar success stories.
With digital matters in mind, this edition of enews takes a look at the inland Revenue’s proposed “Making Tax Digital” initiative. Under the scheme, VAT-registered businesses will be required to maintain digital records, complete VAT returns from digital records and send it electronically to HMRC. We are ready to advise any businesses who may have concerns about the capabilities of their existing accounting systems and are happy to assist in preparing for the changes. Please do get in touch.
