In a time of doubt and faltering confidence in the UK and global economies, Brexit and the possibility of trade barriers and ongoing uncertainty in international relations, it is reassuring to observe our local landscape as politically stable, economically thriving and featuring internationally for all the right reasons.
In the UK Smart Cities Index 2017, Bristol was recognised as leading the way in areas such as open data access, energy innovation, and community engagement. This was followed up by our city beating off competition from Barcelona, Dubai, New York, Singapore and Yinchuan to win the Smart City Award at GSMA’s 2018 Global Mobile Awards: add Bristol’s recent selection as the world’s first test-bed for open 5G in a public environment and it is easy to see why Bristol is fast becoming the “city of choice” for technology businesses outside of London.
Corrigan Associates are proud to help play our part in raising the City’s technology profile with our continued support of the sector, working with local technology business incubators, our clients in the sector and in particular our involvement with SETsquared.
Recently ranked the world’s top business incubator, SETsquared is an enterprise partnership between the universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey, offering support to technology-based business members from idea stage through to investment and scale-up. SETsquared recently announced that in the last year its members totalled 381 companies which raised £218m in investment. Corrigan Associates provides advice and guidance via FD in residence sessions and business review panels, challenging and guiding aspiring entrepreneurs and helping them avoid potential pitfalls and identify growth opportunities.
Through SETsquared and our existing technology customer base, we are seeing significant investment and activity in the sector with our clients continuing to raise significant equity and grant funding. Even with Brexit looming this is exciting times for Bristol’s burgeoning tech sector, something the City can be proud of.
