As the festivities gather pace and the Christmas spirit flows there’s plenty to reflect on from the passing year. The General Election has just concluded and, whatever your political persuasion, there’s a sense of relief that the political impasse of the last few years may be lifting. We know what the Brexit transition agreement looks like but the shape of the final trade agreement with Europe is yet to be decided. Hopefully, something will emerge that provides an opportunity for us to trade freely with the rest of the world but recognises our particularly close connection to our European neighbours.

On the subject of international trade, I am pleased to report that we have become members of Integra International, a worldwide association of independent accounting practices. The Group provides an opportunity to share knowledge among its members and expand the international services which we can offer. This is an exciting development which will be a real benefit to our clients with international aspirations as well as providing interesting opportunities across our whole practice.

During the year, we carried out a review of our core values which found that trust was at the heart of what we do. It is interesting within the wider audit profession that trust is at an all-time low as a result of recent corporate failures. As an independent practice rooted in the local business community our aim is to build long term relationships with our clients based on mutual trust and understanding. With a growing professional staff we have a great platform for future growth.

We look forward to the opportunities and challenges that 2020 will bring but, in the meantime, may I wish you a very happy, relaxing Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
